Body Detox Foods – The Top 5 Foods That Detoxify the Body

As we age our body’s naturally accumulate toxins from the environment.  Although the body was built to naturally eliminate toxins, many of us lead such hectic lives that we make this task impossible.  This causes toxins to build up and reach unhealthy levels, causing many health problems.

One of the easiest ways to help your body eliminate toxins from your system is to consume those foods that naturally contain high levels of antioxidants and other nutrients that cleanse your liver. colon and blood.  In this article I will outline the best foods to consume for optimal body detox.

Body Detox Food #1 – Lemon

Lemons are very effective at cleansing the liver.  They are very high in Vitamin C and help the body convert toxins into a water-soluble form that can be flushed from the system with ease.  Diets such as “The Master Cleanse” rely solely on lemons to detoxify the body.

Body Detox Food #2 – Cabbage

Although many of us are not a big fan of cabbage, it has surprisingly strong detoxification benefits.  It helps activate two powerful detoxifying enzymes in the liver which in turn will help cleanse your entire body.

In addition to the cardiovascular benefits of garlic, it is also an important food that should be a part of any detox diet.  Similar to cabbage, garlic helps activate liver enzymes that are responsible for filtering toxic materials from your system.

Home Body Detox – How to Detoxify Your Body at Home

Toxins that build up in human body due to years of exposure to air pollutants and certain foods can lead to many negative side effects including sluggishness, a weak immune system, allergies and general fatigue.   Those who smoke or eat unhealthy foods are even more prone to suffering the effects of excess toxin build up in the body.

What is a Home Body Detox?

In my experience, in order to really feel and see significant results, you can’t simply rely on one single home detox method.

What I mean by this is, although simply fasting or modifying your diet alone will help remove some toxins for example, in order to fully cleanse the entire body you must do more.

I recommend combining the following three things in order to get the most out of your home body detox program:  Diet modification, physical activity and detoxifying body wraps.

Home Body Detox Method #1 – Diet Modification

diet for detoxificationDiet modification should be the main focus of any home detox program.  There are many different home body detox diets out there, but generally they all involve eliminating most foods from your diet, and ingesting only those foods that will cleanse the body.

Some detox diets like “The Master Cleanse” involve fasting, and only allow you to consume water or juice for a number of days.  I personally don’t believe in these types of detoxifying diets however, and prefer those that allow you to consume certain organic vegetables in addition to liquids.

Janet Hull’s detoxification kit is a better choice in my opinion, since instead of eliminating foods from your diet entirely, it focuses on consuming healthy foods that are alkaline based which will in turn help lower the PH of your body.

Home Body Detox Method #2 – Physical Activity

Why is physical activity an important part of your home body detox program?  Because it makes you sweat, and increase your circulation which are two of the best ways to naturally eliminate toxins from your body. Any exercise is better than none at all, but low impact such as cycling, fast walking or swimming are much easier on the joints than jogging.

Remember that if you have decided to fast during your home body detox, then be sure to pay special  attention to the intensity of your workout since you could faint.  A brisk daily brisk walk for 30 minutes should be sufficient in most cases.

Home Body Detox Method #3 – Regular Detox Body Wraps

Detoxifying WrapHome Body Wraps are a fantastic way to cleanse your body of toxins.  There is really no need to go the the spa for a home detox body wrap.  By performing one at home, you will save lots of money, but still see great results.

How to Tighten Loose Skin

Today I’d like to outline some of the most effective ways  to tighten loose skin.  You may have loose skin due to aging, or it may be due to losing large amounts of body weight.  Whatever the case may be, there are different methods that you can use the tighten your skin and make it appear and feel tighter.

When it comes to tightening loose skin the option you choose will depend on whether your loose skin is a result of the natural aging process, rapid weight loss or plastic surgery like tummy tuck liposuction.

Below I will outline what you can do to tighten your skin in either case…

How to Tighten Loose Skin Due to Aging

As we age the elasticity of our skin decreases.  It usually becomes considerably more apparent after the age of about 50 years.

If you are suffering from loose sagging skin simply due to your age, there are two ways to help tighten your skin.

  1. Resistance training – This method will not actually tighten your skin, but it will help fill out areas that have lost shape over the years creating the skin to sag.  You’ve probably lost much more muscle mass than you realize if you are over 30 years of age, and resistance training 3 days a week can help your body build the lean tissue back to the level it once was at.  This in turn will help fill out areas of your body where the skin appears to be loose and flabby.
  2. Skin firming wraps – Wrapping problem areas is a great way to help tighten loose skin, whether it’s on your upper arms, stomach or thighs.  Two wrapping sessions a week is recommend.  Wrapping problem areas is a very easy, and can be performed at home with no assistance.

How to Tighten Loose Skin Due to Rapid Weight Loss

Loose skin caused by rapid weight loss is usually much more severe than loose skin caused by the natural aging process.  If you have a very small amount of loose skin, you can follow the same steps as recommended above for aging skin (body wraps & resistance training).

If you have a severe case of loose skin, then your only option will be surgery.  If surgery is necessary, doctors will have to remove some of the excess skin from your body.  It sounds quite unpleasant, but it’s a pretty simple procedure and is getting qute common these days.

It’s also important to remember that skin is extremely resilient and can shrink considerable when given enough time, so you shouldn’t run to your doctor and beg for surgery without giving your body enough time to fix the problem it’s self!

How to Get Slim Legs

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your legs, don’t despair!  Let me show you the best methods to naturally get slim legs.  Keep in mind that like most things, in order to achieve decent results you have to be consistent.  Get in the right mindset from the get-go!

Before we begin I’d like to stress the importance of setting realistic goals.  If you are big boned and have had thick limbs all of your life, slimming your legs may be difficult.  For most of us however, losing inches off of our legs and making them appear slimmer is a realistic goal if you follow the simple steps I outline below.

2 Simple Steps to Slimmer Legs

In order to slim your legs you must perform the following 2 steps:

Step #1:  Leg Slimming Exercises

Unfortunately there is no way to avoid diet and exercise, no matter what your “slimming” goals.  In order to make your legs thinner, you have to eat a balanced calorie restricted diet, and exercise regularly.  I’m not going to go into detail with the diet part here, but I will outline what exercises you need to perform.

Exercises to get slim legs:

In order to get slim legs you will primarily want to focus on general aerobic exercise, because ultimately slimming your legs will require you to lower your overall body fat levels.  Aim for at least 3-4 days where you perform aerobic exercise for 30-45 minutes.  Any form of aerobic exercise will work, and I usually recommend that you stick to those that are low impact like cycling or walking versus jogging.

Your aerobic exercise is going to help decrease overall body fat levels, which will begin to slim your legs (sometimes it is the last place fat melts away though!).

In addition to your aerobic exercise, you will want to perform some resistance training exercises that target your legs.  Now don’t get worried that you are going to “bulk up” by performing resistance leg exercises.  It simply isn’t going to happen with light resistance.  I recommend using your body weight and performing exercises like squats or lunges, and then progressing to light dumbbells in each hand.

For the resistance portion of your leg slimming workout, aim for training 3 days a week and performing 4 sets of squats or lunges.  The number of repetitions should be in the range of 15-20.  If this is too difficult, only perform partial repetitions.

The resistance exercises will help tone the leg muscles and improve their shape.

Step #2:  Perform Weekly Leg Wraps

The fastest way to slim your legs is to perform a leg wrap.  There are spa’s and salons that will perform leg wraps for you, but I always recommend that you perform them yourself as you will see considerable savings since the body wrap prices at spas can be quite high.

Leg wraps are a great way to slim your legs, and the best part is that they work very quickly.  I’ve lost quite a few inches off of my thighs and calves after only one or two wraps, and have seen even better results from other whom have bought my body wrap ebook.

For best results I recommend at least two leg wraps a week, with a clay based mineral formula with essential oils.

Body Wrap Prices – The Cost of Body Wraps

There’s nothing better than getting pampered at the spa with a professional body wrap.  It’s a relaxing experience that can lead to great result-even after only a few wrapping sessions.

Unfortunately, body wrap prices can be quite expensive. With that being said, they will vary depending on the spa or salon that you choose and the number of wrapping sessions you purchase.

Some salons also offer different types of wraps.  For example,  one of the spas I researched offered the following types of wraps, which ranged from $145 – $185 per session:

  • Lipase wrap
  • Anti-aging wrap
  • Power wrap
  • Body lift wrap
  • Dream wrap

The price depended on the ingredients used, the length of the session, and the steps involved in the wrapping process.  So as you can see, there are many different factors in determining the price of a body wrap.

Price Ranges of Body Wraps

Here are some of the price ranges I’ve found in a few of the most popular salons & spa’s:

Salon #1:  $145-$185 / wrap

This was one of the more expensive spa’s.  They offered five different body wrap variations, each costing a different amount of money.

Discounts offered:  5% for 3 wraps, 10% for 5 wraps, 15% for 10 wraps.

Salon #2:  $49 -$175 / wrap

This particular salon offered many different options.  The least expensive traditional body wrap was $120, and the “deluxe” traditional body wrap was $175.  A package of 6 “body melts” for just under $300 was also available, however these were infrared body wraps which are different from traditional body wraps.

Salon #3:  $100 / wrap

This spa offered either a mud wrap or an herbal wrap at $100.  There was no pricing discount for multiple wrapping sessions like most salons offer.

The Bottom Line

You can see that the cost of body wraps varies widely.  It depends not only on where the wrap is being performed, but what exactly you are getting during each wrap.  Be sure to thoroughly research the spa or salon that you choose before you purchase any body wrapping sessions so you know exactly what you will be getting!

How Many Body Wrap Sessions Do I Need?

Please keep in mind that although you may experience great results after your first wrap, I recommend that you purchase at least 10 wrapping sessions if you have any of the following goals:

  • Weight & inch loss
  • Body detoxification & cleansing
  • Cellulite reduction

If you simply want to improve the look and feel of your skin and tighten up certain areas, then you are probably fine with one or two wraps.  By performing multiple wraps you give yourself the change of seeing the best possible results, and will also receive a considerable cost savings at most spas or salons.

If you are looking to get the most out of a body wrap for the least amount of money then the best route to take is performing your own home body wraps which can cost as little as $3-$5 per wrap.  It’s probably much easier than you think, and although it may not be as relaxing as the spa experience, you results that you achieve can be exceptional.

When I first stumbled upon Jon Benson & Janis Hauser’s ebook “The Every Other Day Diet” (also know as EODD), I’ll admit to you that I was both intrigued and a little skeptical.

Why?

Let’s just say that “The Every Other Day Diet” is a little unconventional.  It’s methods seem unrealistic at first glance-a little “too good to be true” if you will.  That was my first impression anyways…

Unlike most diets that rely on heavy caloric restrictions to burn fat, this program actually encourages you to eat what you want every other day! Sounds good if it actually works right?

The real question is could a diet like this actually help you lose weight and keep it off?  In all honesty I wouldn’t have thought so myself, but I had to give the co-author Jon Benson the benefit of the doubt since he is a well respected fitness expert who has published numerous diet and fitness related books over the last few years.

Anyways, I had come to the decision that the program warranted further examination, and bought myself a copy so I could share a review with my readers…

What is “The Every Other Day Diet” all About?

I’ve got my own explanation of “The Every Other Day Diet” below, but before you read that you  may want to hear Jon Benson himself explain how this program works and why it is different than most others out there.  You can listen to the video by CLICKING HERE to visit his official website.

Why should we listed to Jon?  Well the guy does practice what he preaches.  He was able to lose 70 Lbs. using the same principles that he based The EODD around (see picture below).

Once I started to understand the simple science behind the EODD, things began to make more sense.  The program is designed to restrict calories and burn body fat without compromising your body’s ability to burn calories.  In the ebook they call it “interval eating” & “planned variance”, fancy words for caloric cycling.

What is caloric cycling?

Simply put, it a way of manipulating caloric intake and tricking your body into thinking that calories are not being restricted, when they actually are.

So why does your body need to be tricked into thinking that there is no caloric deficit?  Well, your body begins to slow it’s metabolic rate making it harder and harder to lose weight.  Unfortunately this is a survival mechanism that has been around since we were cave people!

The EODD uses caloric cycling to maximize your metabolic rate, which makes perfect sense.

The Structure of the EODD Diet

The “Every Other Day Diet” is broken down into what they call “burn days” and “feed days”.  During the burn days, you eat only 30-50% of your maintenance caloric intake.  During the feed days, you consume up to 150% of your maintenance caloric intake.  You are allowed to eat the foods that you like on these days as long as the portions are controlled.

And that brings me to

what Jon calls the HOME method (Hands on Method of Food Eating) to figure out how much food you should consume.

Simply put, portions of food coincide with different parts of your hands making it fairly simple to measure your portion sizes.

Can I Really Eat Whatever I want With The EODD?

Well, yes and no.  Let me explain…

There are three different variations of the EODD that you can choose from:

  1. Primer – This is the most flexible of the three programs, and does allow you to essentially eat whatever you want every other day.
  2. Lifestyle – The maintenance program, recommended after the initial primer phase.  There are only two “feed days” here, meaning that you can only eat whatever you want for these two days.
  3. Extreme – The most strict of the three plans, meant for athletes and bodybuilders.

The “primer” is the only program that you can eat whatever you want every other day.  Jon recommends that you begin with this program, and progress to the “lifestyle” program which only allows two weekly days where you can eat any types of food.

Will “The Every Other Day Diet” Work for Me?

Jon makes it very clear that there are “three conditions” that you have to “take to heart” in order to succeed with this program.

Those conditions are:

  1. Dedication – Weight loss is like most other things in life.  In order to succeed, there needs to be a certain level of dedication.  Like any diet, the EODD will not work if you are not dedicated!
  2. Exercise – Any weight loss program that says you do not have to exercise is a scam.  The EODD requires you to perform some form of exercise regularly.  Fair enough!
  3. Be Reasonable – Having unrealistic expectations is a no no.  It’s taken you years and years to accumulate this excess weight, so don’t expect to lose it all in two weeks!

Simply put, if you are willing to work hard, exercise, and have realistic expectations about the results you achieve, then the EODD should work well for you.

Now keep in mind that I have not actually tried the diet myself, I only purchased the program to review it for my readers.

What I can tell you after evaluating the entire program is this:

  • The diet is simple and makes scientific sense
  • The ebook is well written and easy to follow
  • The bonuses included with the ebook were of high quality and were useful
  • The free year’s worth of weekly support newsletters are a great resource.

In the end I think that the Every Other Day Diet is certainly worth a try if you are looking for a simple program that will help you lose weight while still enjoying some of the foods you love.

Simply put, if traditional diets have not worked for you, then The Every Other Day Diet may be the approach that you need to take.

Cellulite Body Wrap – What is it?

If you are having trouble reducing the appearance of your cellulite, then you may want to consider trying a homemade cellulite body wrap kit. If you’ve read other posts on my blog you already know that body wraps containing the right ingredients have many benefits, and improving the appearance of cellulite is one of them.

  1. Lightly brush your skin to exfoliate it
  2. A liquid or mud based formula is applied to the skin (usually on the thighs or upper arms)
  3. Apply heated ace bandages by wrapping them around your skin
  4. Leave bandages on for at least 45 – 60 minutes
  5. Remove bandages and take a warm shower to remove formula and open the skin pores
  6. Apply post body wrap lotion & anti-cellulite cream

Many people do not exfoliate their skin before applying the cellulite wrap formula to their skin, and this is a big mistake.  Exfoliating the skin is what prepares it for the wrap and enables it to absorb the most nutrients from the formula.

What Makes an Effective Cellulite Wrap?

The key to a really effective cellulite body wrap is the ingredients.  One of the more particularly powerful ingredients to help reduce the appearance of cellulite is Bladderwack which really helps improve the circulation in trouble areas. for this reason I always recommend that this be added to your cellulite body wrap formula.

Cellulite Treatment Cream – Homemade Recipe

Those of you that have read some of my other articles know by now that I like to save money, but also like to see results.  In this article I’d like to show you how to make your own inexpensive cellulite treatment cream that really works!

Sure-there are quite a few cellulite treatment creams on the market already that help reduce the appearance of cellulite.  The problem is that many of these products are quite costly, and often don’t work as well as promised.

By making your own cellulite body cream you will not only save lots of money, but will experience results as good as or better than the brand name products!

But do Cellulite Creams Work?

In order to answer this question it’s important that you first understand what causes cellulite.  Simply put, it comes down to a combination of poor circulation and a build up of toxins, fat and other waste products that get trapped in pockets below the skin (learn more about cellulite in my article “How to Lose Cellulite“).

Unfortunately diet and exercise alone will not reduce the appearance of cellulite.  In order to effectively eliminate the appearance of cellulite, the following for things must be accomplished:

  1. Improve skin elasticity
  2. Increase circulation and boost metabolism
  3. Decrease fluid and wast retention
  4. improve & stimulate the elimination function

So… do cellulite creams work?

I’ve had great success with my cellulite body creams.  Simply put, if they can perform all four of the functions above, they will be effective.

The cellulite treatment cream recipe I am about to share with you works very well because the combination of essential oils makes it extremely powerful for cellulite reduction.

Here are the oils that work extremely well for cellulite reduction:

  • Juniper Berry – Decreases excessive fluids in the body
  • Grapefruit – Helps remove toxins and detoxify the body
  • Rosemary – Tones the skin and improves it’s appearance
  • Cypress – Improves circulation and improves the skin
  • Germanium – Boosts the body’s circulation

My Cellulite Treatment Cream Recipe

8 oz. Uncented lotion

3 TBSP Witch Hazel Lotion

10 drops Juniper Oil

10 drops Rosemary

30 drops Cypress oil

30 drops Grapefruit oil.

Directions: Add all of the essential oils together with the witch hazel lotion and mix together.  When completed, add uncented lotion and shake well.

If you are trying to figure out how to lose body weight, then please read this article carefully! I’d say that 90% of the people that try to lose body weight take the wrong approach-and if you take this route it will cost your unnecessary time, money and stress.  Simply by education yourself before beginning your weight loss plan, the odds that you will succeed are in your favor!

The good & bad news about how to lose body weight

The good news is, that losing significant amounts of body weight can be relatively easy – if you go about it in the right manor.  The bad news is that once you’ve lost the body weight, the hardest challenge may still lie ahead.

It seems as if the hardest part for most people isn’t losing the initial body weight, it’s keeping that body weight off!  This is because most people forget that in order to keep the body weight off, it’s crucial to incorporate a complete lifestyle change.  You can’t simply go on a diet, lose the body weight and go back to eating poorly and living the same type of lifestyle that was responsible for your weight gain in the first place.

So with that being said, I am going to share some straight forward tips that will will ensure that you lose body weight in a fast and healthy manor.

Simple Steps to Losing Body Weight

When I comes to body weight loss, I’ve found that taking a simple, straightforward approach works best.  Let’s be honest… science doesn’t lie.  By following simple scientifically proven methods you will lose weight.

Step #1 – Cardiovascular exercise & resistance training

Most people realize that more cardiovascular exercise is a must when it comes to losing body weight.  Resistance training is often neglected however.  You see, resistance training will help you preserve your lean body mass while you are on your diet.

Without resistance training your body will naturally lose some of this lean body mass, which will decrease the rate at which you burn calories-making losing body weight even more difficult.

Here are some simple exercise tips that will help you get started on a weight loss plan that works:

  • Aim for at least four days of cardiovascular exercise, and two days of resistance exercise each week.
  • Track all aspects of your exercise routine carefully.
  • Start slow and gradually increase exercise volume and intensity over time to avoid over training.
  • Get help from a personal trainer or expert before you begin your program!

Step #2 – A calorie restricted nutritious diet

Well this one may be a given, but it seems like lots of people do something wrong here.  Not only do you have to eat a “clean” diet, but you also have to eat less calories than your body burns each day.  For example, if your body burns approximately 2000 calories daily, you should eat around 1700 or 1800 calories each day in order to maximize fat loss.

If you don’t eat less calories than you burn each day, losing weight will literally be impossible!

Here are some more diet tips:

  • Estimate your RMR (resting metabolic rate) and eat about 200-300 calories under that each day.
  • Eat plenty of quality protein and limit simple carbohydrates from your diet.
  • Don’t be afraid of fat-you need it in moderation.  Aim for plant oils like olive, flax etc.
  • Aim for 5-6 small meals each day versus three large meals.  This will boost your metabolism.
  • Track your diet carefully including the foods you eat, number of calories etc!

Step #3 – Weekly body wrap sessions
