How to Tighten Loose Skin

Today I’d like to outline some of the most effective ways  to tighten loose skin.  You may have loose skin due to aging, or it may be due to losing large amounts of body weight.  Whatever the case may be, there are different methods that you can use the tighten your skin and make it appear and feel tighter.

When it comes to tightening loose skin the option you choose will depend on whether your loose skin is a result of the natural aging process, rapid weight loss or plastic surgery like tummy tuck liposuction.

Below I will outline what you can do to tighten your skin in either case…

How to Tighten Loose Skin Due to Aging

As we age the elasticity of our skin decreases.  It usually becomes considerably more apparent after the age of about 50 years.

If you are suffering from loose sagging skin simply due to your age, there are two ways to help tighten your skin.

  1. Resistance training – This method will not actually tighten your skin, but it will help fill out areas that have lost shape over the years creating the skin to sag.  You’ve probably lost much more muscle mass than you realize if you are over 30 years of age, and resistance training 3 days a week can help your body build the lean tissue back to the level it once was at.  This in turn will help fill out areas of your body where the skin appears to be loose and flabby.
  2. Skin firming wraps – Wrapping problem areas is a great way to help tighten loose skin, whether it’s on your upper arms, stomach or thighs.  Two wrapping sessions a week is recommend.  Wrapping problem areas is a very easy, and can be performed at home with no assistance.

Skin firming body wraps may be new to you.  If you’ve never tried one, Click Here to download my skin firming body wrap ebook.  It will teach you everything you need to know about skin firming wraps at home.

How to Tighten Loose Skin Due to Rapid Weight Loss

Loose skin caused by rapid weight loss is usually much more severe than loose skin caused by the natural aging process.  If you have a very small amount of loose skin, you can follow the same steps as recommended above for aging skin (body wraps & resistance training).

If you have a severe case of loose skin, then your only option will be surgery.  If surgery is necessary, doctors will have to remove some of the excess skin from your body.  It sounds quite unpleasant, but it’s a pretty simple procedure and is getting qute common these days.

It’s also important to remember that skin is extremely resilient and can shrink considerable when given enough time, so you shouldn’t run to your doctor and beg for surgery without giving your body enough time to fix the problem it’s self!

I wish you the best of luck in your quest to firmer skin!

Hi i used to be fat now im skinny but on my upper hips around me but i have little bit fat/skin. My lower abdominals i have extra skin and u can see the marks of where my stomach stretched. I workout 5 days a week and i have this loose skin that keeps me from seeing more curves that i wont. I dont kno if i should wait another 3 yrs until im done growing or get surgery im 20 right now. When i sit down you can see the extra skin but of course when i stand up you cant tell.

  2. Glorisell says:

Hi! My thighs are very flabby as jiggle and with cellulite. i suppose that my flabbiness is due to a sedentary life and a rapid weight loss too. Do you think that I can resolve this problem doing lunges and squats every day? Thanks.

  3. Sherry says:

To Nicholas – You are still young. Give your skin sometime to recover – it will most likely bounce back. I was a young mom, had my baby at 20. My skin bounced back with no sagging. Excercise will definately help!

To Glorisell – I have this problem on and off (depending on whether or not I am excercising). EXCERCISE does work for this problem…but NOTHING takes fat off and firms your legs like jogging does…and it works quick too!

I’m 48 and have always had nice legs due to a lifetime of heavy working out, hiking, running, toning work, kick boxing, you name it, I do it six days a week. I’ve always been thin, still thin but not skinny and my legs are well muscled and have been since I was a child. My diet is excellent. I use good cream on my skin, but now all the exercise in the world doesn’t matter. The shape of my legs is good, but it looks like I need a leg lift. The skin dimples, and if I pull it up with my fingers, it looks the same as it did when I was 47 — firm. Is there anything that can be done? Will saran wrap help? I’ve thought about trying that with anti cellulite cream to see if it might help.

I’m posting this for others who are not young. Since I’m not young and have been highly active my whole life, it looks like my problem is simply aging. I’ve looked into it and there is something that can be done if you’re in good shape. It’s called Thermage, a type of lazier treatment. For most young people, however, exercise and a good diet will do the trick. When I was in my 20s and had surgery, and was inactive for a period of time, my legs developed cellulite. As soon as I resumed regular activity, it went away.

Hi, I am a young 55, people think I am younger, have always worked out, and now work out regularly on weight training machines at least 3 times a week, my arms have always looked toned. Now I notice due to some hormonal changes that no matter how much I use weight resistance machines the skin is starting to look saggy, should I up the protein in my diet, I am thinking of going to a nutrionist/personal trainer to get some tips, but would appreciate anyone with some suggestions. Thanks.

  7. admin says:

Hey, it sounds like it’s loose skin that is causing the sagging which just tends to happen over time. Herbal arm wraps can help tighten the skin in that area so it’s worth a shot. Weight training is certainly good also. If you build the muscle up in the arms it may help “fill out” the skin. Remember that in order to increase the muscle size you have to lift a rather heavy weight-around 8-10 reps to failure.

    Good luck!

    Hello,
I am 39 years of age, and I am quite slim. I work out regularly on a treadmill I have at home, and I push myself to the extreme. My upper legs from my knees to my buttocks are in terrible condition, i have severe loose skin, i would say it looks like orange peel skin. It only started to occur in the past two – three years. No matter how much exercise i do it doesnt change. I have even been to see a surgeon who said that I would need a thight lift and liposuction. This procedure scares me, however if there was another way I would love to try. I love the beach so much, but I am so embarrassed to wear a bikini now. Do you think that my only option is surgery?

  9. admin says:

Surgery may not be the only option. Try a mineral clay based leg wrap with herbal liquid and track your results. Try three a week for a month and then once a week after that. Let us know how it goes!

  10. Dietrick says:

Frexel Lazer is the most effective way to tighten skin, or operation.
Just cut it away. There is not potion or magic mud bath.

We lose connective tissue when we age and that will not go away by just working out harder. But we do need to work out but short and VERY intense, only about 3-4 times per week for 3-40 minutes, thats it.

Eat a good diet and never starve. Get enough fish oils and drink cloves tee. Sleep enough and meditate. All that will decrease your aging process and rejuvinate.

  11. Ines says:

My sister lost a lot of weight and is now considering surgery for her stomach. I came across your website and want to help her with somehting natural before she decides to do surgery. She has extra skin of course and also to tighten – which do you recommend.

  12. admin says:

The skin will tighten over time assuming regular exercise/healthy diet. An abdominal body wrap will also help. Surgery may not be necessary unless there is lots of excess skin.

    Thanks for reading the blog!

I have major loose skin under my neck, chest, fingers and legs.how can i tigten then theese areas? are they caused by aging?help

  14. admin says:

Body wrapping could certainly help for the neck, chest and legs. Normally our skin does lose some of it’s elasticity as we age, so this is a factor. Sun exposure, smoking and diet also play a role however.

I have been basically obese my entire life. I was overweight from age 4 to 14. at 14 I became 340lbs….i wasnt unfamiliar to this territory….my big frame saved me somewhat but i was still way obese…and i decided to lose it…..at 14 i lost over 70 lbs in 4 months because of my muscle mass….when i lost all the weight i looked like i meletd..u could see my six pack and my muscles…but you could also see all of the loose skin sagging…as i lost more weight i got smaller but i think some of my skin tightened up..as i grew and aged..im 18 now and i still have a fair amount of sagging skin and need advice….i have a lot of muscle but the skin still saggs around my arms and abs and excess skin hangs aroung my groin area….. need advice

  17. admin says:

Skin will continue to tighten up over time, but only to a certain extent. It is possible that you may eventually require surgery. In the meantime a body wrap may be worth a shot as it will help tighten your skin with regular treatments.

    All the best,

    Ella

    @tyler demeter

how long did it take you to lose that 107 pounds? cos i’m a very similar wieght to you and i’m thinking if i lose wieght over a longer period of time theres less chance i’ll get excess skin

  21. dorcas says:

cant see anything about the tummy. can body wrap be made to the tummy alone?

  22. admin says:

Absolutely, this is one of the most popular treatments. You would only need about 5 body wrap bandages for this treatment.

  23. Ren says:

I have the answer to loose skin! Seriously this works and doesn’t cost much. Radio frequency skin tightening machines you can have this done at a spa or plastic surgery center there is no pain and no cutting. I had 3 treatments of Refirme and it worked amazing and its been a year and I still have tighter skin! I did it on my stomach and recommended it to my Aunt she did it on her face. Her husband was astounded at the results. Refime is not the only company, Accent, Alma Harmony, Thermage, Ulthera, are other companies with the same system. Ulthera is suppose to be the strongest followed by Thermage. They just go down deeper in the skin and cost a lot more, and you need less treatments. So depending on severity and what is available to you all these will do the trick. You might have to do more treatments with the milder machines but they will work! And they keep tightening for up to six months. You will feel the area heat up and that is it repairing itself. I cant say enough good things about the treatment. I was raised to workout and eat healthy so I was always very thin. But when I got pregnant I had a disease that made me gain 60 pounds. My skin on my abdomen had a lot of stretch marks but no saggy skin until my kids were grown. Once I got older I was still fit and had a six pack on my stomach but the stretch marks turned to crepey excess skin that just hung there (very gross). Three treatments of Refime and my skin was tight like I was twenty again! Hope that helps everybody!

  27. Adam says:

I have a problem that i had almost 23% of fat, and now im at 11% my whole body is stretched and my 6 pack is there, but i just have this extra skin part that dosent want to go away near my lower abdominal and my lower 2 packs dont really show beacuse of it, and sometimes its very obvious the skin, and sometimes not so much. I have phobia from it, everyday i wake up in the morning and look it to the mirror for the past 1.5 years and wishing this part would one day vanish. I increase the training for my lower abdomials everyday but there is just no result. I went to a doctor and he said to keep it straight and simple, the only way is surgery, and there are no other ways. Im 19. So i was wondering should i do the surgery? or any help?
