Pina Colada Skin Care

If you are looking for a fun and refreshing way to pamper your skin why not try a Pina Colada face mask?

Let’s take a look at one recipe and the benefits of its ingredients.

Pina Colada Mask

1 tbsp Coconut Milk
2 tbsp Honey
1 tbsp Mashed Pineapple
1 tbsp of Plain Yogurt

Mix all ingredients together. Apply to your clean skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off the mask with cool water to close your pores. You may not need to add a moisturizer after your mask, since the coconut milk contains plenty of oil.

Coconut milk contains natural emollients, which help to moisturize the skin helping to prevent it from wrinkling. The oil in coconut
milk locks in moisture and softens the skin.

Honey is an excellent treatment for the skin and is used frequently in skincare products. It contains antibacterial and
anti-inflammatory properties, which can effectively help treat minor cuts, abrasions, and burns.

Pineapple contains a protein-digestive enzyme called bromelain, which helps rid the skin of dead cells and dirt. The tingling
action that is felt when this facial mask is applied is the enzymes in the pineapple working.

Yogurt helps to cleanse the skin with the exfoliating properties of lactic acid it contains. Lactic Acid is a mild alpha-hydroxy acid
and can help balance your skin’s acidity.

This mask recipe can also become a tasty smoothie. You will need to adjust the recipe to make a delicious pina colada smoothie.

Pina Colada Smoothie

½ cup Coconut milk
½ cup Pineapples
2 tbsp Honey
¼ cup Yogurt
6 ice cubes

Blend all ingredients in your blender and drink.

Now there is one more reason to enjoy a pina colada! It can refresh you from the inside out.

Body Wraps To Reduce Cellulite

Body wraps originated from humble beginnings where Ace bandages or plastic wrap was tightly wrapped around a body to result in expediated weight loss. Today, the body wrap has exploded and morphed into a new form of spa treatment that promises not only weight loss, but with different applications and ingredients, can also be utilized as a treatment for a wide variety of skin ailments. Amongst the most common reasons for treatment via body wrap are eczema, psoriasis, and most predominantly aside from weight loss, cellulite.

Body wraps to reduce cellulite and other skin ailments can be obtained within salons and spas. They often include the application of various ingredients such as varieties of mud (sea, dead sea, clay, etc.), seaweed, algae, lotion, cream, honey, and the list continues on, then pressed into the skin by wrapping bandages or plastic wrap around the body.

The average time for a body wrap to reduce cellulite is roughly 20 minutes, though some may last longer, after which the products are usually rinsed off and followed with a moisturizing treatment such as lotion. Often advertisements claim to not only accomplish the reduction of cellulite, but also to shed anywhere from one, up to as many as twenty inches of weight from a client’s waist line, thereby reducing the visibility of cellulite. The weight loss is primarily the result of a process known as vasodilation.

Vasodilation occurs when the blood vessels widen as a result of the relaxation of the smooth muscle tissue within the walls of the blood vessels. Due to the decrease in vascular resistance, the flow of blood is then increased, exposing larger amounts of water, mineral, and other contents of the blood to the surface of the skin. The eventual outcome of the process behind body wraps to reduce cellulite is the loss of water through the skin, causing the tightening and firming of skin tissue which creates the appearance of less cellulite.

Many salons make the claim however, that cellulite is completely banished in the process of body wrapping, and that by continuing the process over time, one can manage to remain cellulite free. Critics argue that the cellulite is often still present, and upon ending use of body wraps that cellulite often returns.

Spas and salons widely advertise the “detoxification” properties of body wraps to reduce cellulite, as well as their ability to rejuvenate the skin. Body wrap treatments help detoxify the body by using the ingredients to pull the toxins and fat out of the skin/blood through perspiration, therefore reducing cellulite.

The philosophy behind how body wraps accomplish this detoxification is that it is accomplished by draining the lymph tissues of the body by spreading the fat cells apart, allowing toxins and wastes to be drained from lymphatic tissues which also may reduce swelling. However, one should keep in mind fat is not soluble; though both nutrients and minerals essential to the body are water soluble, and therefore easily lost in wrapping procedures.

The average body wrap designed to reduce cellulite can range in cost from $80-$150 for a forty-five minute procedure, or upwards of $100-$200 for a one hour procedure. You can save substantial amounts of money by performing your own body wraps from home.  They work as well as spa treatments, and are easy to perform either on your own or with a friend.

Remedies For Stretch Marks

stretch mark stomachAre you ready to get rid of your stretch marks once and for all?  The stretch mark remedies outlined in this post are easy to implement at home, and most importantly really work!
Before I outline ways to remove stretch marks, it’s important that you understand their causes, which I will outline first…

What Causes Stretch Marks?

There are a few common causes for stretch marks.  Your skin type does play a role here, since certain types of skin are much more resilient than others (thanks mom and dad!).

Stretch marks occur when the the skin is stretched beyond it’s limits, causing minute tears in the tissue.  This causes scar tissue to develop, which is a different color than the surrounding skin.

The most common cause of stretch marks in the teen years is growth spurts.  These stretch marks often occur around the lower back, buttocks and breasts.

Fast weight gain is another common cause of later in life, and can be caused by either gaining excessive amounts of body fat or muscle mass.

Pregnancy is another common cause of stretch marks particularly around the belly button and the sides of the stomach.

So now that you understand a little more about the cause of stretch marks, let’s take a look at some of the best home remedies for stretch marks…

The Home Remedies

Since stretch marks are scar tissue, there is no way to “remove” them.  However, we can alter their appearance so that they blend in with the surrounding skin more naturally.

Here are things that you can do at home to help improve your stretch marks:

  1. Take Supplements – Antioxidants such as Vitamin E are particularly good for the skin, and can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.  Fish oil supplements can also help as the Omega 3 fatty acids they contain are very powerful.
  2. Skin Massage – Massaging your stretch marks with Vitamin E is another excellent method.  The combination of this powerful antioxidant and the increased blood flow to the area is likely why massage works well.
  3. Body Wraps – Herbal body wraps are a fantastic treatment for the skin, and with the right ingredients can be an excellent way to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Most importantly, don’t get discouraged.  If you follow the steps mentioned above, your stretch marks will begin to disappear over time.

If you would like to try a body wrap to help eliminate the appearance of your stretch marks, please order one of our body wrap kits.

The Best Ways To Tighten Loose Skin

If you have been trying to figure out how to tighten loose skin, you are not alone…  Many men and women suffer from loose skin usually due to aging, or substantial/rapid weight loss.  regardless of the cause of loose skin, there are different methods that you can use to improve it.

Here is a list of the different methods you can use to tighten your loose skin:

Ways Tighten Loose Skin Caused By Aging

As we age the elasticity of our skin decreases.  It often becomes considerably more noticeable after around 40-50 years of age.

  1. Training With Resistance – Resistance training will not actually tighten your skin directly, but will help build lean muscle tissue that will “fill out” certain areas.  Since you lose quite a bit of lean muscle after around 30 years of age,  skin will sag around the areas where that muscle used to be.   Resistance training with weight or bands for 1-2 days a week can help your body rebuild lean tissue and re-shape your body (especially the arms and thighs.
  2. Home Herbal Body Wraps – Body Wrapping problem areas such as the upper arms, thighs or stomach is a great way to help tighten loose skin.  All it takes is a couple of body wrap sessions a week for the first few weeks and then a “maintenance phase” that will consist of one or two wraps a month.

Tightening Loose Skin Due to Excessive Weight Loss

Loose skin caused by rapid weight loss is often much more severe than loose skin caused by the natural aging process.  Now if the amount of loose skin you have isn’t too severe, you can follow the same two steps above and they should help.

If you have large amounts of loose skin on the other hand, then you may have no choice but to have it surgically removed.  Although is sounds quite unpleasant, it’s a relatively common and easy procedure that surgeons perform daily.  It is considered very low risk as well.

But Wait!  Skin Can Bounce Back!

One last thing that is important to mention is that your skin is extremely resilient and can shrink considerable if you give it time.  Surgery should be a last resort, only if nothing else works for you.
