If you are looking for a great homemade skin cream, check this out… A few years ago I started making skin cream after I realized how easy it was. The fact that it is inexpensive to make, uses organic ingredients, and works amazingly well made me wonder why anyone considers purchasing the over-priced, chemical-laded lotions!
If you have sensitive skin, homemade skin cream is the best way to go since you are in complete control of the ingredients. You’d be surprised at how many chemicals even the name brand lotions have in them, and if you suffer from skin sensitivity, they can play havoc with your skin.
Making Your Own Skin Cream
To make homemade skin cream you will begin with a base for your lotion. The base will consist of three ingredients-water, oil and an emulsifier. Never heard of an emulsifier? It’s simply an ingredient that helps mix the water and oil.
Here are my favorite ingredients for a homemade skin cream base:
1/2 cup distilled water
1 TBS liquid lecithin
1/2 cup oil (You can use almond, olive, grape seed or macadamia nut oil)
Once you’ve made the base you can experiment by adding other ingredients such as essential oils and herbs. You can also steep herbs into the water that you use as a base. The possibilities are endless.
Winter Homemade Skin Cream Recipe
Below is a favorite homemade skin cream recipe for dry skin. It is excellent for the winter months as it will help sooth and moisturize your dry skin.
- 1/2 cup distilled water
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1 TBS lecithin
- 6-8 drops of Geranium oil
- 2-4 drops of Myrrh oil
- 400 IU Vitamin E oil (1-2 open capsules)
Geranium oil helps improve balance and rejufenate dry skin (especially well with wrinkled / mature skin). Myrrh is a delicate oil that is very good at replenishing moisture.
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and helps protect and nourish the skin.
Add all of the ingredients to a small blender and blend at the “whip” or “cream” setting. For a lighter lotion you can add water as necessary.
Be sure to store the cream in a cool place to keep it fresh.
I hope you enjoy my homemade skin cream recipe and enjoy experimenting with your own concoctions. If you are trying to improve the texture and appearance of your skin, why not try a skin and detox body wrap kit or check out more recipes in my eBook.

I don’t understand how to make sensitive skin products without a lot of chemicals.
Thank you for any free help.
sincerely,

I love how this formula is put together. It’s just umm… i don’t know what most of these ingrediants are and where to find them but it still helps. Thank you so much!
Very interesting looking for healing skin lotion when I found this.
I did not realie bought stuff had dangerous chemicals in it.
I live in Philppines so hope to find something available here.
I definately want to try to make my own for me and my honey like lotion with alovera in it and it can be expensive.
Will it become a paste? Actually I need paste. Someone told me to use a mixture of STEARIC ACID and POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE but I do’nt know the exact parcentage and method. Can you please tell ?
I made the basic recipe and found that some of the oil separated out after a day or two. How can I remedy that?
Sharron
You might have to heat the formula (very low temperature), then you can mix it again.

I like the way this cream feels on my skin, but I found that the oil separated out. What did I do wrong?
do you heat the formula first?
Dee,
The formula is added to water and then heated. This is the mixture that the wraps absorb before they are applied to the body.

Ella

Rachel,
There are many effective body wrap recipes. We will be posting many more over the next week. are you able to obtain clay?
-Ella
Just would like to mention to the lady of the Philippines that you can easily substitute the oliveoil with coconutoil and as emulsifier you can use beewax
Hi Ella,
Thanks for posting this recipe! I really want to try it!
Just wondering if you know whether glycerin can be used as an emulsifier instead of lecithin? Or added to the mixture?
You suggest heating the formula + water at a low temp before mixing, am I right? So no heating ingredients separately like in a lot of other recipes I’ve seen?
Just want to make sure before I start experimenting!
All the best,
Kari
