Benefits Of Herbal Body Wraps

Herbal body wraps were born from the humble beginnings of Ace bandages or plastic wrap tightly wrapped tightly around a body resulting in vasodilation. Vasodilation causes the relaxation of smooth muscle cells within the blood vessel walls causing the vessels to widen. As the blood vessels dilate, blood, and likewise other hormones and chemicals within the blood, are pulled closer to the surface of the skin. Spas and salons have built upon this theory by adding additional heat to the procedure by placing clients under thermal blankets while they lay, usually upon a warmed table or bedding. The current day procedure of body wrapping therefore has several benefits such as the firming and tightening of the skin and pores, weight loss, and detox of the body through metabolic stimulation.

Depending on the type of material used for the body wrap treatment, different results may occur. Some spas offer treatments utilizing a wide variety of materials such as algae, seaweed, mud, clay, lotions, creams, and salts. The duration of the treatment can vary from spa to salon. Many body wrap treatments tout weight loss. Some claim to remove anywhere from 6 inches to 20 in a single treatment. The weight loss offered by wraps is also often fast and attainable within just a few treatments, or even as little as one treatment. While yet others tone skin using dead sea mud mixtures. Mixtures including ingredients such as algae and seaweed promote omega -3 integration into the skin, and exfoliation to make the skin smoother and more supple, all while smoothing and relaxing the surface of the skin.

Other materials that are commonly used to facilitate body wraps are a wide variety of scrubbing agents, such as salts, sugar scrubs, and coffee. Salt wraps have been touted as “glow wraps”, due to their ability to not only exfoliate the skin, resulting in a radiant glowing effect, but also hydrate the skin, providing minerals to the skin and drawing water impurities out from the skin. Sugar scrubs , likewise are known also for their exfoliating abilities, however, it is also believed that due to their similarities to the skin’s genetic make-up, sugars reinforce moisturizing, and add a plumpness to the skin. Coffee scrubs are famous for their diuretic abilities, drawing toxins and excess water from the skin. Coffee is also believed to rejuvenate dry, dehydrated skin, and help reverse sun damage and aid in soothing skin ailments such as psoriasis and eczema.

Although body wraps offer several physical benefits such as weight loss, skin toning and the soothing of different skin ailments, the primary draw to these body treatments for many people is still the peaceful tranquility of being pampered. The warm and comfortable environment is often described as “cocoon like”, and the moisturizing massage that follows the rinsing of the body wrap material is highly stimulating for the skin. Despite the type of material utilized in the treatment, all body wraps have been touted by several various clients in testimonials as being highly relaxing, soothing, as well as enjoyable.

The Top 3 Herbal Body Wrap Myths

There are plenty of myths about herbal body wraps out there.  I’m constantly getting questions from customers asking me if things that they are reading about body wrap treatments are true or not.  I am amazed at some of the crazy questions I get!

In this post I’d like to outline and dispel three of the most common body wrap myths.

So let’s begin…

1 – You Can Eat Anything You Want While Body Wrapping

In order to get amazing results, you have to eat well no matter how many body wraps you are getting.  Simply put, a body wrap can’t replace a healthy diet.  In order to lose inches and detoxify your body, you have to make sure you take care of yourself.  It’s time to ditch the packaged foods if you are still consuming them and replace them with plenty of high quality vegetables and fruits, and organic meat.  If you eat a healthy low calorie diet and be active, and I promise that you will experience great results!

2 – You Don’t Need To Exercise While Body Wrapping

Herbal body wraps are a great way to tone your skin, but exercises is still important if you want to see jaw-dropping results.  Excessive exercise isn’t necessary.  Aim for resistance tube and body weight exercises a couple times a week, and aerobic activity at least three days.  The duration of your aerobic workouts will depend on intensity (harder = shorter duration).   Simply put, regular exercises should always be included as a part of your body wrap regimen if you want to get the most out of each treatment.

3 – You Only Need One Body Wrap Treatment

Although most people will see some results after their first body wrap session, I highly recommend a series of 3-10 body wraps over a 1 month period.  Depending on a number of factors, you may need at least three treatments to maximize your inch loss.  Those of you that also want to detoxify the body will want to perform a minimum of 8-10 wraps.

I hope this clears up some of the common body wrap myths out there.  If you want to see amazing results, pick up a high quality herbal body wrap kit, eat a balanced diet, exercise often, and aim for a series of treatments as opposed to one.

The Benefits of a Body Wrap Kit

Are you ready to try a body wrap at home?  To begin, you will need body wrap supplies, and have two options.  You can either purchase a body wrap kit, or all of your ingredients and supplies separately.  In this article I will outline the benefits of each option so that you can decide for your self.

Body Wrap Kits

A body wrap kit includes all of the accessories and ingredients that you need to perform a body wrap at home.  although the content of each body wrap kit vary, most contain the following:

  • Body wrap formulas – this could be a clay, herbal solution or both
  • Body wrap bandages – normally ACE style compression bandages
  • Sauna suit – helps trap heat and help you sweat
  • Exfoliating products – usually exfoliating cream or a dry skin brush for before your body wrap
  • Tape measure & tracking sheet
  • Instructions

The amount and type of formula that a body wrap kit contains will vary.  In most cases, the larger the size of the kit, the greater the savings.  This means that if you pay more upfront for your kit, the cost of each body wrap will be lower.

The big benefit of a body wrap kit is that it contains everything that you need, and will save you quite a bit of time since you don’t have to search for all of the ingredients separately.  The cost of a body wrap kit is also usually cheaper compared to buying separate items.

The only real disadvantage of a body wrap kit over buying supplies separately is that you may not have the option to choose a specific type of clay or formula, however, most companies are willing to customize your order.

Buying Body Wrap Ingredients & Supplies Separately

If you decide to take this route as opposed to buying a body wrap kit, you will have more flexibility.  If you find that the ingredients & supplies in the body wraps that you have been looking at do not fit your needs, then this is probably the best route to take.

Here is a list of the items you will need in order to perform your own body wrap:

  • Clay or herbal liquid
  • Wrapping bandages
  • Dry skin brush
  • Essential oils *optional

There are many different types of body wrap clays, herbal liquids, and essential oils that you can choose from when creating your own kit.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and see which ingredients work best for you.

Which Option is Best for Me?

If you have never tried a home body wrap before, a home body wrap kit is probably the easiest and most economical way to get started.  If on the other hand you are a home body wrap “veteran”, you would probably benefit from purchasing your ingredient and/or supplies separately so that you can try to create your own formulas.

The “Skinny” On Body Wrap Treatments

If you have never had an slimming body wrap treatment before,  you probably have quite a few questions.  What exactly is a body wrap?  How does a body wrap work?  Do body wraps actually work?

In this short article below, I intend to answer those questions.  Feel free to post a comment at the bottom of this post if you have any other questions or need any clarification.

How Are  Body Wrap Treatments Performed?

People undergoing slimming body wrap treatments normally have their mid-section, legs, arms, and neck wrapped with body wrap bandages (either dry when wrapped or pre-soaked with a liquid herbal body wrap formula). The body wrap bandages help compress the tissue, as well as absorb and help remove excess body fluids and toxins. The bandages are wrapped snugly (though not too tightly), creating a thermal blanket that promotes sweating and helps in the removal of unnecessary interstitial fluid (fluid located between the small spaces of body tissues).

The Benefits Of Body Wraps Treatments

Body wrap treatments are natural, most often containing a combination of different herbs and minerals designed to beautify the skin and promote inch loss. Essential oils and sea salts may also be used in body wrap treatments.  Certain ingredients will not only help tone and soften the skin, but will also help you shed inches. Results are often noticed after the first wrap, but 3-4 body wraps are recommended.  Do remember that toxins and interstitial fluids eventually find their way back in to your body, so having regular “maintenance” body wrap treatments will provide better long-term benefits.

More About Body Wrap Treatments:

Body wraps use detoxifying organic materials, such as sea clay or aloe vera, to draw toxic chemicals from the body and improve skin tone and texture. In order to get the most out of your body wrap treatment, it’s best to exfoliate the skin prior to your wrap, or perform some type of body scrub.

Most body scrubs use a blend of oils with fine and coarse grains, and are followed with the application of emollient lotions to further soften skin. Skin will feel soft, and fine lines will lessen after just one treatment. Such deeply relaxing treatments are shown to decrease stress, thereby lowering blood pressure. Since the skin is our largest body organ, detoxification can have incredible effects on our overall health.
