Losing
Weight Starts with the Soul
by Danielle Sims
part 1
There is one
topic I would like to share with everyone that subscribes to this
newsletter. It is about the little miracles that I have used for
over 10 years. They are called The Bach Flower Remedies.
The
Bach Flower Remedies are homeopathically prepared remedies that
help to bring
the soul –mind, emotion, and will into balance. There are
38 remedies total that help to heal negative emotions like anger,
resentment, self-hate, low self esteem, etc… There are also
remedies to help with exhaustion, procrastination, boredom, and
more.
They are non-toxic
and completely naturally. How are they made? Well, you can go to
http:///www.bachcentre.com to find out how they are prepared,
about Dr Bache, a list of all remedies, contact information for
suppliers all over the world and everything else about these little
gems. For the UK the supplier is Nelson Bach at http://www.bachessences.com
. This site also contains a wealth of information on the remedies.
You can also sign up to receive a free booklet on the Bach Flower
Remedies online. International inquiries are welcome. The US supplier
is also Nelson Bach at http://www.nelsonbach.com
.
The remedies
have been used for over 60 and were discovered by Welsh doctor,
Dr Edward Bach who did the modern research in the Twenties and Thirties.
He wrote that
‘the action
of these essences is to raise our vibrations and open up our channels
for the reception of the spiritual self’.
The most popular
and widely used remedy is Rescue Remedy. This remedy is a combination
of 5 remedies: Cherry Plum, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem, Rock Rose,
and Impatiens.
Here is a brief
description of what each of the 5 remedies properties:
Cherry
Plum – For feeling out of control
Clemantis – Unconscious or not in the present
Impatiens – When you are impatient or irritable
Rock Rose – For terror or panic
Star of Bethlehem – For shock
I
have used Rescue 100’s of times, for PMS, to help cope with deaths in
the family, with my niece and nephew’s temper tantrums, and
all sorts of “emergencies”.
There
have been arguments as to whether these remedies actually work
or is it just
a placebo effect (believing something will work). A great deal
has been written on the Bach Flower Remedies, most of the evidence
as
to whether they work or not is largely due to experience of users
all over the world. However, lately there have been non-traditional
studies done with these remedies such as bio-feedback, aura photography.
Also, quite a few psychologist and psychiatrists have prescribed
them as a catalyst to help with a patient’s counseling
with success.
In fact, I have
my own story to counter the placebo argument:
My cat when
he was young was playing with my blinds and accidentally hung himself
from the pully that adjust them. I came in the room just as he started
to convulse and released him form the pully. When I put him down
on the floor, his body was lifeless and he was breathing heavily,
staring straight ahead. I rushed for my bottle of rescue remedy
and put just a few drops in some water. I then put a few drops on
his mouth and he immediately hopped up and started playing. This
was a drastic reaction considering a few seconds before hand he
was in a state of shock.
Vets have used
them on pets also. They are especially a great benefit to abused
animals.
The remedies
have been used on plants, animals, and children successfully. Regardless
of them whether or not the soul believes it will help them.
Rescue Remedy
is a great remedy to start out with. For your weight loss needs,
this remedy will give you a calm approach to your diet, help you
to control urges, and help relax you when you feel stressed.
I the next issue
I will discuss a few of the individual remedies that help you as
you pursue your weight loss goal. Also, how to prepare the remedy
formula, dosage, and other ways you can use them.

Soybeans, Anti-Aging Wonder
by Dr. John Maher
Looking for
a high-protein, low-fat alternative to meat that can actually reduce
your cholesterol level, ease menopause and help prevent osteoporosis
and even cancer?
Soy
protein is a "complete" protein and just as nutritious
as animal protein. In those countries where soy is the main source
of protein,
rates of heart disease and certain cancers (particularly breast,
cervical, prostate and colon) are relatively low. Soy also protects
against osteoporosis and some symptoms of menopause.
Let's take a
look at some ways that you can substitute soy for animal products.
Tofu--made from
soy milk. It can be blended, stir-fried, steamed, grilled and baked.
Crumble firm tofu into the cheese for lasagna, or add it to chili
or spaghetti sauce.
Miso--soybean
paste often put in soups.
Tempeh-made
from fermented soybeans, can be made into a spread or pressed into
a cake and marinated, grilled or baked.
Soy milk--is
rich, cream milk of whole soybeans. Pour over breakfast cereal or
mix half-and-half with dairy milk. Add soy milk to coffer in place
of milk or creamer. Choose a low-fat product fortified with calcium.
Soy flours--can
be used to thicken gravies and cream sauces, to make homemade soy
milk, or to add to baked goods for a protein boost. Using about
15% soy flour in a bread recipe produces dense, moist, nutty-flavored
bread.
Soy sprouts--like
alfalfa sprouts, can be added to salads and other dishes.
Soy
cheese is great in omelets. Soy flour can be added to pancakes
and waffles.
Soy protein powders and soy based meal replacement drinks are convenient
and tasty way to increase soy intake. Soy "burgers" are
available at most heath food stores. Textured vegetable soy protein
can be added to ground beef or turkey recipes. (10% soy in such
dishes blocks the formation of cancer causing HCA's, hetero-cyclic-amines,
in meat.)
Try to eat some
legumes every day. And make soy your most common choice. The average
Asian eats one and a half servings a day.

Ten
Reasons to Hire a Personal Trainer
By Leigh Sykes
Many of us struggle with the issues of fitness - finding the necessary
time, knowing what activities are best for us as individuals, wondering
how much exercise we really need, understanding our own abilities
and frailties. We've tried various activities, and somehow each
one didn't fit, or wasn't enough.
Have you considered hiring an ACE (American Council on Exercise)
Certified Personal Trainer? Many women consider the possibility,
then immediately dismiss it as too expensive.
Are you exercising regularly, and happy with your regimen? Maybe
so. Otherwise, and especially if you fall into any of the following
categories, maybe you should consider this excellent exercise alternative:
1. You're a klutz. Or maybe just an over-doer. Like many people,
maybe your fitness goals have often gone like this: begin a new
activity, buy the equipment, incur an injury, wait to heal, start
over, feel distressed for being behind, give up, and start looking
for a new activity. Discouraging? You bet. Working with a personal
trainer, your workouts are monitored by an expert. You do the right
exercises for you, do them the right way, and the chances of injuries
are minimized.
2. You're a tightwad. Strange as it may sound, you can effectively
use your own tendencies toward thrift as a motivational tool. If
you've always been cautious with the bankroll, pre-paying for a
series of sessions with a personal trainer will be an excellent
incentive for you to show up and exercise. You certainly aren't
going to let all that cash you've spent go to waste, are you? Maybe
in the past you've even paid for a health club membership, which
has gone unused. If so, it was obviously a small enough sum for
you to ignore. Hiring a personal trainer is relatively expensive.
You'll feel compelled to show up faithfully, and make sure you get
your money's worth.
3. You are starting a new type of activity. Many women have never
learned proper techniques for weight training, and don't know how
to target specific muscle groups. Muscle may have memory, but it
can't remember that which has never been learned. Working with a
trainer, you'll be able to undertake weight training you might never
attempt on your own. You'll be thrilled by the results, and success
will beget more successes in your other physical activities.
4. You have a limiting medical condition. Check with your health
care provider, and be sure to discuss your medical history with
a prospective trainer; if they don't feel the need to know, keep
looking. Most ACE certified trainers request a detailed outline
of your health history as part of their initial assessment. With
the blessing of your physician, working with a trainer can also
resolve puzzling issues regarding degrees of exertion and working
through pain. A personal trainer can help you find alternative exercises
if an activity causes pain. Remember that to do so is an affirmative
step, not an abandonment of goals.
5. You have a busy schedule. When working with a personal trainer,
you get in, exercise, and get out. You can avoid the time-wasting
waits for health club equipment at peak times, as well as the tendency
to procrastinate about exercise when you're busy. Some women allow
exercise to become a low priority because of putting commitments
to other people ahead of our own needs. You own firmly-ingrained
attitude of commitment in keeping an appointment with another person,
in this case, your trainer, can help keep you on track.
6. You are only a little out of shape. If your fitness regime has
always served you well, maybe you're near the peak of fitness, but
have reached a plateau. A personal trainer can take an impartial
view of your fitness levels, and help to focus on areas where you
are weak.
7. You are very out of shape. Here, a personal trainer can have
an almost magical impact. The difficulty of starting an exercise
program, even at a doctor's insistence, can be a daunting task for
women who were not brought up with a tradition of physical fitness.
A certified trainer can do a detailed assessment of your own unique
level of ability in a private, non-judgmental atmosphere. She can
help you set realistic and attainable goals, teach the use of proper
form and body mechanics, and provide encouragement to keep you working
toward those goals.
8. You don't like health clubs. If privacy is important to you,
some fitness trainers will come to you, at home or at work. Although
you may find excellent fitness trainers operating through traditional
health clubs, many trainers now work from fully-equipped private
studios. If you like a bit of social interaction while you work
out, some trainers will even pair you, at your request, with other
clients of similar interests and fitness levels. You may even make
a new friend.
9. You haven't exercised in a while. Maybe you were an athlete in
high school or college, but have become sedentary through years
at home or behind a desk. It can be especially dangerous to think
you can just pick up where you left off. Exercise physiology is
a burgeoning science, and advancements are made every day in our
understanding of physical fitness. Remember to check with your doctor.
10. You need motivation. Whether it's the price you've paid, the
convenience of set appointments, or your own sense of obligation
in honoring the commitment of the trainer's time, the goal is to
get in shape. If you have been displeased with your track record
of honoring your commitment to your own physical well-being, it's
worth a try.
